About procrastination and friends

This week was definitely my week of procrastinating on the boring parts of life and enjoying all the fun instead.

Right now, I’m sitting in front of my laptop, trying to write the one essay of this semester, but I just can’t seem to focus on it. My last week has been filled with so many fun moments that keep distracting me, so instead of forcing something that obviously won't work, I’ll just write about these fun moments instead! •͜•

  • I went on a picnic with my close friend, V, to the garden of Schloss Charlottenburg. We sat in front of the garden house and brought a bunch of fruits, my camcorder, my friend book, and a scarf that I just started knitting, and we talked about everything that has been going on. We got quite entertained by my boots, which decided to fall apart exactly once I was out and got to the castle, and let me tell you, it was a challenge getting home in those things. But once we got back, another dear friend, L, joined, and we got to feast on the best lasagna ever, cooked by my sweet fiancĂ©.

OH WAIT!

THIS BLOG DOES NOT KNOW THAT I LITERALLY GOT ENGAGED ON FEBRUARY 16TH WHEN MY SWEET (then) BOYFRIEND ARRANGED THE IDEAL PROPOSAL — BOTH INTIMATE, WITH MY CLOSEST FAMILY AND LOTS OF FLOWERS!!

Huge shocker,

I said yes. (hihihi)

Anyway, back to that fun Sunday night! After talking and talking about wanting to watch a movie, we started playing Mario Party on the Nintendo Switch and got so captivated that we kept playing the rest of the night.

10/10 experience, would recommend to anyone.

  • Later this week, on sweet Thursday, I finally got to go to a pottery workshop with my other close friend, D! After both of us not finding time on any Tuesday or Thursday when the other person was free over the last few months, it was finally time, and we met at this hidden gem in the heart of Berlin to chit-chat and do pottery! While my friend, due to her regular attendance and ongoing projects, didn’t mind screwing up her newest project of the night and starting over, I was determined to create my first pottery piece in a long time and finish it. In hopes of actually making it, I will soon be the creator of my first — and probably only — yarn bowl ever, inspired byThe Very Hungry Caterpillar, which I’ve been obsessed with recently. In addition to the yarn bowl, I also created two buttons as well as one star-shaped pendant that I can’t wait to paint soon, possibly tomorrow! At the same time, I got to peek a little more into my friend’s life and the people she surrounds herself with, and you shouldn’t be surprised when I tell you that I felt super comfortable having her, and other sweet and creative minds, around me. I definitely got inspired that night, which made D already show me two crafts I’ve been wanting to do forever — pottery will be checked off my New Year’s resolution list!

  • This Friday, as well as the Friday before, sparked my interest in movies and films once again, with two visits to the movies to watch two Oscar-winning films that I won’t have to watch on streaming services now, where it definitely loses some of the sparkle you only feel in the cinema.

─── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───

The first movie was a spontaneous watch after a great bĂĄnh mĂŹ to celebrate my fiancĂ© submitting his residency permit application to the responsible office! (No further details needed, but we felt a huge relief after months of built-up stress.) We decided to watch Anora, a comedy-drama-romance movie we’d seen everywhere. The best way to describe this movie would be to compare it to a rollercoaster ride—every twist takes you somewhere you hadn’t quite expected to be, revealing an emotion you hadn’t expected to feel. It triggered some not-so-fun parts inside of me and had me stressed, but it made me giggle as well, and I definitely shed more than one tear watching it. It was a better watch than I originally thought it would be!

3.5/5

The second movie was a planned cinema date with my already mentioned friends, V and L, to watch the indie animation Flow. For anyone who has just seen a glimpse of this movie, it’s needless to say that it was breathtaking in its animation and art style, telling a story about friendship with no words needed and making you appreciate the ones you have around you, as well as the life you get to live here in peace. The animals all had personality traits you’d expect, but seeing them work together with the sole reason to survive and eventually becoming a family feels like the fairy tale you were told as a child.

4.5/5

In celebration of watching two movies and being able to talk about it afterward with friends this close, I actually decided to make my first Letterboxd account to track my future watches and remember which ones moved me the most.

For anyone interested, my name on that platform is the same as here:

My fun week didn’t stop there, though.

  • Due to my fiancĂ©’s and our friend L’s cubing obsession, we ended up at a cubing competition in Leipzig last Sunday. One of the things I couldn’t have imagined being fun before actually turned out to be super entertaining and definitely worth a day trip out of the city! Since I couldn’t join them for a sleepover the night before due to cat-sitting, I had plenty of time to myself on Saturday and Sunday that I used to knit two Sophie scarves — one for me and one for my fiancĂ© — which already made the experience a whole lot better. But once S and I got to the cubing competition, we couldn’t stop watching all these insane people who have the skill to solve a Rubik’s Cube in less than 20, even less than 10, seconds! It made me happy seeing L and M in an environment where they could share their passion with so many other people, and especially for newcomers, they did amazingly in the competition itself!! Writing about it any further won’t do justice to how fun the day was, so I’ll stop here.

  • Last but not least, I had my dear friend D come over to the place I’m cat-sitting this week to do some co-studying, but instead, it turned into a fun chat and friend book day! I already have five entries in my friend book, and the fact that she showed me how to bind it and then wrote her own entry in it gave me that full-circle moment. I love collecting my friends’ interests inside this little book as if it were my own personal PokĂ©dex, and I can’t wait to fill it with so many more!

As you might have noticed, it was the same four people who made these last two weeks as special as they are, and I don’t regret procrastinating my essay at all. I had things to do that actually made me feel fulfilled, and I know I’ll be able to write a few words and hand in my essay… eventually! But time with your friends is valuable, and as someone who didn’t have enough time for them in the past and started suffering in so many parts of my life because of it, I won’t feel bad for having a good time anymore.

All of these moments and more will forever be treasured in my heart, and honestly, that’s what life is really about.
